Demons Continue Strong Start; Get Vengeance on Rifle in Week 2

After coming up short in the state semifinals last season, the Glenwood Springs Demon football team was ready to punch back.

In the season opener, the Demons went on the road and destroyed the Harrison Panthers in Colorado Springs. Glenwood Springs racked up a whopping 356 total rushing yards en route to a 41-13 victory.

Next on the list was an old rival who crushed the Demons’ dreams of winning a state title last season.

Last Friday, the Demons engaged the Rifle Bears in a stalemate of a game with neither team scoring the entire first half. Things only began to get interesting once the third quarter started. Joaquin Sandoval and Ray Rosenmerkle hit paydirt in the second half and that was all the offense the Demons needed. The defense held strong behind senior linebacker Teddy Huttenhower who was all over the field for the Demons.  The final result was a 13-7 victory, and revenge, for Glenwood Springs.

The 2-0 Demons will host Conifer on Friday at 7 p.m. in the season’s home opener. Tickets will be  available at the gate before and during the game.
