The Glenwood Springs High School boys basketball team began the season with uncertainty. The beloved Cory Hitchcock, long time Glenwood basketball head coach and assistant athletic director, coached his last season in the 2017-2018 school year and took a promotion to coach at the collegiate level shortly before this season began.

In lieu of Hitchcock leaving, Coach Fred Heisel stepped in and carried the Demons to a Western-Slope best 11-1 record and league championship. The Demons finished with in the top 10 in Colorado’s 4a standings and secured a first round bye and home gym advantage in the playoffs. Their first game in playoffs was against the Golden Demons. The Demons and the Demons faced off in Glenwood, but unfortunately Glenwood lost 79-61.

The Demons lost eight seniors this year: Kevin Ayon, Wyatt Ewer, Luke Gair, Angel Garcia, Sebastian (Chano) Gonzalez, Holden Kleager, Erwin Rodriguez, and Uzi Vera.

Earlier in the year, the Glenwood Demons upset No. 3 Steamboat Sailors, in the Sailors home gym. Putting Glenwood at a tie for 1st in the Western-Slope 4A division. The Demons went on and split their season series with the Sailors, and that loss was their only loss posted in their league record.

A couple players to watch next year are juniors, AJ Adams, Mitchell Burt, John Iuele, Will Narvaez, Adam Schrader, and Patrick Young. These will be the core seniors of the Demons in the 2019-2020 season.
