Demons hockey notches first win

The inaugural Glenwood Springs Demons hockey season is underway and it didn’t take long for new coach Tim Cota to notch his first victory as the man in charge. After losing the first game to a defensive juggernaut Crested Butte team, the Demons found the win column with a 8-0 bludgeoning of Air Academy.

Sophomore Colter Strautman led the scoring onslaught with a hat trick. Hats were flying all over the arena as Coal Ridge senior Ryan Kotz also scored three goals. Senior, Devlin Powell and sophomore Nolan McPherson also lit the lamp in the winning effort.

“It felt good and it was a long time coming,” senior Kai Kanzer said. “We finally got a team together. Air Academy wasn’t that strong of a team, but it was nice to get our first win under our belts and it’ll take some pressure off and set the tone for this weekend.”

The Demons will try to keep the momentum going as they travel to Fort Collins for a game Friday night, then travel back to Eagle for a home game Saturday against Denver East.
