The Glenwood Demons are marching on as they are undefeated in their last 9 games, looking to knock off the Huskies from their 3 year reign on top the 4A Western League Slope.

With the Glenwood Demon’s Soccer team off to their best start in the Wayne Smith era, Glenwood will look to knock off the Battle Mountain Huskies in hopes of winning their first League Championship in the Smith era. The Demons have won eight out of their last nine games, including a tie with 10-1-1 Battle Mountain. Glenwood hasn’t beaten Battle Mountain in 4 years so defeating the first place team in the division would be huge for the Demons.

“Whenever we play (Battle Mountain) it’s tough,” said head coach, Wayne Smith, “ we know how to defend against them, but they are tough to score on.

Glenwood, fresh off their 2-0 victory on the road against Summit High School, will look to build off of the momentum they hold. Glenwood comes into the game at  9-3-1 and currently are on a run of 8-0-1 in their last 9 matches after starting the season 1-3. Glenwood has also shutout 5 teams this year. Glenwood will rely on their top two scorers in Junior, German Alvarado, and Senior, Leo Mireles to lead them over Battle Mountain in their upcoming matchup.

“We have an outstanding midfielder in Leo Mireles but I think the team as a whole will step up and play as a team,” said Smith.

Battle Mountain comes into this game with a 10-1-1 record having only been narrowly defeated by the #4 team in the 4A Standings, Durango Demons, by a score of 3-2 in OT. The Huskies will rely on their goal leader, Junior Danny Barajas, who has a total of 19 goals on the season.

In their first matchup of the season, Glenwood and Battle Mountain fought it out , ultimately ending in a 2-2 tie. Glenwood has not been able to defeat the Huskies in four years as Battle Mountain has claimed the league championship in the last 3 years.

The Demons will look to claims its first league title, when they host the Battle Mountain Huskies at Stubler field this Tuesday at 6PM.
