Homecoming week at Glenwood Springs High School means that it’s time for athletes to show off their skills against fearful opponents. On Tuesday, October 2 the Lady Demons played their long time rivals, the Rifle Bears at Chavez-Spencer Gym.

 

Glenwood sits 3-3 in the 4A Western Slope conference and 7-6 overall which puts them 5th in the league. Rifle sits 0-6 in the 4A Western Slope conference and 1-12 overall, putting them last in the league.

 

Rifle showed up to Glenwood, surrounded by Demon Pride and loud fans. They soon became fearful for the game that lay ahead. The first match quickly revealed that Glenwood would be triumphant with a score of 25-11. The second match was over quicker than the first. With a score of 25-9. Glenwood decimated Rifle in the final match, with a final score of 25-16, making Glenwood 4-3 in the league and 8-6 overall.

 

Glenwood had many good players come out and show what they are made of. Allison Rosenmerkel (1) led the team in both digs, with a total of 10, and serve receptions, with a total of 7. Logan Nieslanik (2) also had 7 serve receptions, tying Rosenmerkel. Shanik Zambrano (8) lead the team with 4 total aces against the Bears defense not to mention 3 of those 4 aces were in a row. The Demons kept Rifle’s defense working hard with Ashley Emery (10) and Sarah Wagner (7) each having 7 kills. Emery also lead the Demons with 2 total blocks. Reese Goluba (6) lead the team in assists with a total of 15 assists.  Baylee Johnson (10) made an appearance after a three game due to an ankle sprain. Johnson had 2 aces and 3 digs.

 

Glenwood will host the first place Steamboat Sailors who sit (5-2) in league and (9-7) overall at home on this Saturday October, 6.
